NIRMAAN is a Digital Skill Development Center project for supporting underserved Tribal community in Vikasnagar, Distt-Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Project will be implemented in the rural town of Vikasnagar a fast becoming populated with youth from the nearby Jaunsar-Bawar Tribal region. Issues addressed through this project are, skill deficit among Youth in the area, unemployment with a focus on tribal beneficiaries and quality of Skill training for better quality of livelihood.
NIRMAAN is envisioned to create a digital technology equipped center by incorporating the technological devices like Projector, Laptops, Computer, Internet, Smartphones furnished with Digital Learning & Teaching content & tools to create a tech savvy environment for learning as well as for enhancing the livelihoods of youth in the area. The proposed digitally equipped centre will provide livelihood related skill training to the youth from Vikasnagar & the nearby villages. A digital Library will be established in the rural town of Vikasnagar in Uttarakhand to impart 4-6 month skill training course for selected youth. Digital Library at the center will be a space for self learning with access to internet, furnished with diverse digital learning resources to improve local livelihoods which student can access at their own convenience. Skills including English skills, Digital skills, Soft skills training, certification, mock interviews, career counseling & placement sessions will be conducted throughout the course duration.
The goal of the project is to Nurture Digital Skill Development Centers in underserved communities that become Centers for High Quality Skill Development Education, equipped with contemporary technology to develop employability skills, digital literacy & livelihood knowledge for the youth in the region.
The objectives this project are as follows:-
1.To equip youth with employability skills like Computers, English, Personality Development, Marketing to make them financially self-dependent.
2.Provide Govt. / Private Enterprises with skilled workers who are market ready.
3.Create avenues through technology & other mediums to provide the best experts & talent for holistic skill development
4.Increase digital literacy amongst the youth & raising awareness in the community about digital education.
5.Engaging local & national youth in skill development.
Every year about 13 million youngsters join the workforce in India, but the Labour Ministry reports that 1 in 3 graduates up to the age of 29 still remain unemployed and of the employed workforce India has only 3.5% skilled workers. The under trained & under-skilled youth is the result of wide disconnect between the industry and skilling pedagogy. Technology has the potential to bridge the gap of resources necessary for skill development. With approximately 350 million internet users & the present government promoting the Digital India Mission & Skilling India Mission on a mission mode we are on the brink of a Digital Revolution. Digital Technology is critical to enabling change in the skill sector. The future of Skilling India to attain better livelihoods lies in the interaction of Youth with Technology through Internet.

By establishing a Digital Skill Development Center in Vikasnagar (Dehradun), Uttarakhand, SoHF has envisioned to create a digital technology equipped center by incorporating the technological devices like Projector, Laptops, Computer, Internet, Smartphones furnished with Digital Learning & Teaching content & tools to create a tech savvy environment of learning for enhancing the livelihoods of youth in the area.
With the help of technology especially video conferencing the employability training center would include:
1. 6 Days a week classes for 4-6 months for the courses mentioned above
2. 24x7 Digital Library & Knowledge Center – Library equipped with computers & digital content for learning & knowledge.
3. Workshops on themes from employment through video conference.
4. Industrial Visits to motivate & nurture interest in youth.
5. Career & Livelihood Counseling Sessions by prospective employers & domain experts.
6. Placement in Corporate / Private Organisations in the proximity & elsewhere. Through this endeavor we wish to encourage participation of youth & technology in augmenting basic education, skill development & youth livelihoods for inclusive development of society.Student Fees for Enrolling: Each student would be charged Rs 700 / month. (Coaching Institutes in the area charge approx. Rs 1500 for Government Exams, English and Computers)

A space to promote digital literacy, computer education for digital learning to enhance skills & livelihood knowledge amongst the students along with the community at large can get familiar with computers while discovering the power of internet & digital content to create knowledge based society.
A Newsletter in local language – Hindi, serves as a tool of promotion the center, its activities & the impact of work being done.
Target beneficiary profile
Students who would be receiving the education at the center are called the Target beneficiary audience. Course content is devised according to their needs & requirements.
1. Their profile of the target beneficiary would be as follows:
a) Age: Preferably 18 years & above
b) Education: 10th or 12th Pass
c) Majority Hindi Medium students (Fluent in Hindi)
d) Basic functional knowledge of English e) Economic Situation: 1.5 Lakh Per Annum Family Income for a Family of 4 Individuals.
2. The Target candidates would have to undergo an Skill Assessment Entrance test and interview, post which only they would be admitted in the program.
3. A Skill Profile of each trainee would be created and kept with us based on the entrance test & the Skill Evaluation & Assessment Test post completion of 6 months of program. Certificate only awarded to students who pass the final exam.
